Special Issue: The Nordic Word Order Database
Guest Editors: Ida Larsson and Bjørn Lundquist

This special issue presents the Nordic Word Order Database (NWD), an online database with a user-friendly search interface, hosted by The Text Laboratory at the University of Oslo, launched in April 2019 (https://tekstlab.uio.no/nwd). The database contains elicited production data from speakers of all of the North Germanic languages, including several different dialects. The data elicitation is carried out through a carefully controlled production experiment that targets core syntactic phenomena that are known to show variation within and/or between the North Germanic languages, e.g., subject placement, object placement, particle placement and verb placement. The articles present the database and give an overview of the data collection methodology and main results.

The journal is dedicated to covering all branches of linguistics in the Nordic (North Germanic) languages, Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish. It has a strong empirical focus, with maps of isoglosses being a central ingredient. The journal aims to be descriptive, empirical, and scientifically sound, and to present new results.

The editors encourage submission of research articles focussing on dialect features, isoglosses and maps. One volume is published per calendar year, and each volume contains one issue. The articles are peer-reviewed. Authors are encouraged to use the Nordic Dialect Corpus and the Nordic Syntax Database as (part of) their empirical basis.

The first volume was originally published here together with linguistic maps. Se also the Archive link above where you can find the first volume together with all NALS Journal papers.
